It is my pleasure to introduce the 2008–2009 Kingsport City Schools Annual Report. The annual report is one tool the school system uses to showcase the accomplishments of our students and staff. We are going green this year, focusing on the conservation of our resources with the intent to inspire students to think and act globally.

As Superintendent, I get a unique opportunity to see progress in action. One of the highlights of my job is visiting with students and staff in the classroom. After every visit, I leave with a greater respect for the impact our staff makes in the lives of children. I take immense pride in each and every student that walks across the stage at spring graduation. I believe strongly that our school system is providing opportunities for those graduates to be productive citizens of the world. I am proud of the work we are doing in Kingsport City Schools to improve academic performance, reduce costs and to increase the efficiency of our operations. I’m excited by the progress our students are making in math, science and reading. I feel that our school system is ready to meet our future challenges and I know that we live in a community that truly supports education. I thank you for the opportunity to serve as Superintendent and I thank you for your continued support of our students and our schools.
